the longest of the 4 boards was 10'. I had to have the guy circumcise about 4" off the ti p. It is 6/4 walnut about 8'. I got 4 boards for $460. damn. They had 1 board that was about 4' wide for $2500. this was 1 cut, not multiple joined together.
a pre- made slab for what i’m making is about $1800. A neighbor of mine has a full wood shop. He is currently making a cello. he said he would put the slab together for me. I told him i’d like to help and he thought that was cool. So for $460 and probably a basket of homemade cookies and a 6 pack i’ll have a nice slab.
with any luck i’ll have something like this:
to put on this:

I have a black walnut tree in the back yard you can have. Its about 4’ wide. If you cut it down, that is.

What was the board foot price?

you should cut it down and sell it. you could get new Mercedes level money from that.

really? I have 3 super tall ones I want taken down. Between them and the vines that grow on them, it blocks all sunlight into my back yard.

Opposaurus is right. Call around to local lumber mills. With a diameter of four feet, as long as it’s not rotted out they’ll pay big bucks for that. In most cases you shouldn’t have to cut it down - they’ll do it all.

o i forget exactly. we got prices for regular and select cuts and 4/4 6/4 and 8/4. I want to say this was around $11/board foot.

E xactly! In fact, my in-laws just built a house and their kitchen is nearly the same.* Colors and walnut island, anyway.
*My father-in-law designed our kitchen. We clearly made decisions, but it’s what he does for a living, so...
Not the best pic:
The best thing about this kitchen is the gigantic pantry / laundry / whatever room right next to it:
There’s a washer/dryer to the left, and a sink too. I would have put a pocket door in that wall, but
not my house.
So that room will absorb all the clutter that would normally be in the kitchen.
